Through the Giving in the Netherlands Panel Survey, the Center conducts research on volunteering. Questions answered in this research include the following:

How many volunteers are active in the Netherlands, in which sectors, and how many hours do they volunteer? Answers to questions like these you can find in the biennial Giving in the Netherlands books that appear in the odd years. The most recent one is from 2009. What motivates volunteers? Using the Volunteer Functions Inventory as well as measures of pride and respect we examine organizational as well as individual motives such as altruistic values, career motives, socializing and ego-enhancement. Read some of our findings here.
